Asserting that the time has come for all non-BJP parties to unite against the BJP dispensation, Goa Forward party chief Vijai Sardesai said that all progressive, pro-Goan forces should come together to protect Goa and prevent outsiders from becoming sarpanchas and MLAs in the State.
He also said that the principal opposition party, Congress should resolve their leadership issue at the earliest.
He said the people of Goa, especially South Goa, had shown the BJP its place in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. “Goa Forward is ready to work with like-minded parties to strengthen grassroots democracy. Time is running out for the opposition. We must act early, not just for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat polls, but also for next year’s Municipal elections,” he said.
Sardesai said the Goa Forward party will contest the Davorlim and Raia Zilla Panchayat seats and has already begun campaigning. “If the Congress has issues, we can discuss and reach a meeting point. But first, the Congress should resolve its internal matters,” he said.
As far as other parties are concerned including the Revolutionary Goans Party, Sardesai said everyone should work together in the interest of Goa. “If certain parties are not ready to come together, the people will teach them a lesson,” he warned.
The resignation of AAP leaders from the party in the wake of Arvind Kejriwal’s move to go solo in the upcoming elections in Goa and to contest all the 40 Assembly seats, Sardesai said the resignation is the manifestation of their fears that AAP is going against the wishes of the people of Goa. “People have started leaving AAP for the simple reason that they have realised that the party is not targeting the BJP but is out to divide the opposition vote. There may be many more AAP workers and leaders who may want to quit the party,” he said.
