Campaigning steps up for 2 ZP seats in Porvorim

Four candidates each who are contesting elections to Penha da Franca and Socorro ZP seats in Porvorim constituency have stepped up their campaign, going door-to-door to distribute pamphlets to voters.

PENHA DE FRANCA ZP: The four candidates in the fray are Sandeep Salgaonkar (BJP), Eldrich DSouza alias Munna (Congress), Arvind Tendulkar (AAP) and Rajan Dhavde (RGP). There are 17,337 voters in the Penha da Franca constituency, which comprises the villages of Penha da Franca and Salvador do Mundo.

During the ZP elections in 2020, independent candidate Kavita Gupesh Naik, who was supported by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, had won the election by securing 4,543 votes. The BJP candidate Radhika Sawant could secure only 2,865 votes, while the Congress candidate Pedrina Gracias got 875 votes.

SOCORRO ZP: The four candidates contesting elections to the Socorro ZP seat are Amit Asnodkar (BJP), Sahil Mandrekar (Congress), Teotonio John Felix Lobo (RGP) and Kartik Kudnekar (Independent). There are 24,312  voters  in the Socorro ZP constituency, which comprises the villages of Socorro, Saligao and Parra villages.

In the last ZP election, BJP candidate Kartik Kudnekar had won the election by securing 5,319 votes while independent candidate Vaishally Satardekar, who was supported by Khaunte, could get 4,805 votes and AAP candidate Mario Cordeiro got1500 votes.

Campaigning has intensified, with all candidates going door-to-door to distribute pamphlets to voters.

Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has been actively campaigning for the two BJP candidates, Sandeep Salgaonkar (Penha de Franca) and Amit Asnodkar (Socorro), by addressing corner meetings.
