CANACONA
Canacona’s tourism stakeholders have come together to form an association to unitedly fight for issues related to tourism and garbage in Canacona taluka.
The tourism stakeholders, at their first meeting, appointed an adhoc committee with the sole aim of completing the registrations and simultaneously get all those in the tourism trade, including tourist taxi operators, under a single banner.
The adhoc committee is appointed under the chairmanship of ex-CMC chairperson Simon Rebello. The other executive Committee members are: Working president Nandeep Bhagat, Vice President Vijay Komarpant, General Secretary Joseph Gaspar Coutinho, Secratary Uday Pagui, Treasurer Eufemio Joaquim Cardozo, Joint Treasurer Sushant Bhagat, Executive members - Joseph Armando Cardozo, Simon Fernandes, Albano Agostinho Fernandes, Vikas Bhagat, Barsat Naik Gaonkar and Mariano Diniz.
Members present at the meet sought assistance of the association in resolving various issues including those associated with electricity department and other government agencies.
The new committee members said the body will first ensure early registration of the association. The committee, however, clarified to a member that the association will neither assist nor interfere in any illegal activity of a stakeholder and the person concerned will have to face the music from the authorities.
Chairman Rebello said, “The stakeholders as required by law to compulsorily dismantle their seasonal structures and obtain the requisite clearance certificate or otherwise the concerned will be blacklisted by the authorities.”
General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho informed that the association will observe the World Tourism Day, Environment Day and also undertake cleanliness drives before and after the season and on different occasions. Medical camps will also be organised for the benefit of tourism stakeholders, their families and staff members in Canacona.
The association has also decided to ask the authorities concerned for requirement of CCTV cameras to be installed on beaches of Canacona (Palolem, Agonda, Patnem and Galgibaga) and will follow-up the earlier demand for a police outpost at Palolem.
