Canacona CHC holds ‘Disaster Mock Drill’ on train accident
Teams at the CHC Canacona provide relief to train accident victims as part of a mock drill on Thursday evening.

In a major exercise, the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) and other teams conducted a mock drill on a train accident in Canacona on Thursday.

All 158 staff at the Canacona CHC, including doctors, nurses, and contract staff under the leadership of Health Officer Dr Benedita Dias, as well as the teams from the Dy Collector, Police, Fire & Emergency Services (F&ES), Vigilance Dept, Lions Club and social workers took part in the mock drill.

As part of the mock drill, calls were received that a train accident on the Konkan railway route passing through Canacona had met with an accident leaving people dead and seriously injured.

CHC Canacona swiftly coordinated, re-organised, re-called all its staff including medics and non-medics, contract workers and otherwise, as ambulances were dispatched to bring the injured from the accident site to the CHC hospital.

Soon, ambulances began to arrive with seriously injured accident victims as personnel from police, F&ES,  Social organisations and workers made their appearances and began to extend helping hand in bringing the injured from the ambulances, and in other transport modes. To the hospital.  

In the mock drill, 12 volunteers were brought in as accident victims, while one victim was declared brought dead. Those injured were subjected to first-aid treatment and Intensive Trauma Care, before arrangements were made to shift the accident victims to the South Goa District Hospital and Goa Medical College and Hospital for advance treatment.
