Traffic snarls at Colva circle amid traffic lights outage

MARGAO

Traffic snarls hit the Colva traffic circle on Thursday evening, leaving confusion at the busy junction during peak traffic hours.

Reason: The traffic signals regulating the traffic flow suddenly stopped functioning, while the traffic police were conspicuous by their absence with personnel drafted for traffic duties in the Port town in view of the VIP visit.

With neither the traffic signals nor the traffic police at the junction, motorists were left to fend for themselves to make their way through the snarls. Some of the citizens including journalists lent a helping hand to regulate and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Sources in the traffic department said most of the traffic personnel were drafted for VIP duties in the Port town on Tuesday. They have promised to take up the issue of non-functioning traffic signals with the concerned authorities.
