Canacona CO transferred, CMC chief not too happy

Canacona Deputy Collector Chandrakant Shetkar, who also held additional charge as Canacona Municipal Council Chief Officer, has been transferred out of the taluka.

CANACONA

Shetkar will take over as deputy Collector & SDM Bardez from Pundalik Khorjuekar. He will also hold additional charge as Administrator of Comunidades, North.
With this development, the long-pending demand of the CMC councillors for a full-time CO for Canacona town has been ignored yet again, CMC Chairperson Prathana Naik Gaunkar has stated.
“The CMC needs a regular chief officer to expedite development works in the municipality,” said Gaunkar.
The transfer order of Shetkar and Khorjuekar was issued by under secretary (Personnel-I) Meghana Shetgaonkar on April 1, with instructions to complete the hand over within three days.
Complaining further, Gaunkar said CMC did not even have a municipal engineer since the last 15 days, badly hampering works in the municipality. “After divesting the additional charge of a municipal engineer, a transfer order has been issued transferring Vikas Prabhudessai as full-time engineer to CMC. But the officer has not yet joined in the last 15 days, badly hampering municipal works,” said Gaunkar.
The CMC chairperson said Shetkar had gradually started taking initiatives in his work and things were moving in the right direction. Incidentally, the opposition councillors had initially opposed the CO with some even taking up the matter with Canacona MLA.
