CANACONA
There was no official notice, but virtually all shops and establishments responded to appeals for a lockdown till Friday and downed their shutters on Monday.
Except for medical stores and a gas agency, all shops and establishments ceased operations for the day in view of rising Covid cases in Canacona taluka.
“The business community has responded to our request in the interest of public health and we expect this self-imposed lockdown to continue for the next three days. This will help Canconcars to successfully break the chain of Covid infections in the taluka,” said Canacona Nagrik Samiti (CNS) Convenor Shantaji Naikgaunkar
Following the completion of a four-day statewide lockdown on Monday morning, the government withdrew the lockdown but continued with the same restrictions.
However, the CNS had appealed to the business community to continue with the lockdown till Friday.
While all shops and establishments remained closed and did not open for the day, members of CNS complimented Goa Bagayatdar Bazaar management for supporting the cause and closing their outlet in Canacona.
Meanwhile, Covid cases continue to rise in Canacona taluka with scores of people rushing to the Canacona CHC for tests. Sixty-two new cases were reported in Canacona on Monday, taking the active cases to 631 in the taluka.
