PORVORIM
The strict lockdown imposed was near total in the villages of Penha de Franca and Salvador do Mundo.
Except for pharmacies, all shopkeepers and business enterprises, including the Goa Bagayatdar Bazaar, pulled down their shutters after 11 am. The Malim Jetty also closed its main gate.
The Penha de Franca and Salvador do Mundo panchayats have decided to impose a “containment red zone” in their respective villages till May 9, in view of a surge in Covid cases in Porvorim constituency.
However, shops and establishments on the Porvorim plateau, which fall under the jurisdiction of Pilerne panchayat, remained open as the Pilerne panchayat did not enforce any lockdown on Monday.
As a result, residents of Penha de Franca and Salvador do Mundo were seen visiting the western side of the Panjim-Mapusa highway to purchase essential commodities after 11 am.
