Last week when the honourable CM of Goa was contemplating lockdown in the State, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Confederation of Indian Industries requested him to keep the businesses going so as to help the economy. They praised him when he recommended only restrictions so that much of the businesses could carry on. Now two days back the same bodies are asking all non-essential commodity traders, retail shops, restaurants and business establishments in Panaji for voluntary closure till Sunday May 9. Why only in Panaji? Why do these bodies send confusing signals to the CM and people? Let the government once for all declare and clarify whether Goa is under lockdown or under ‘strict restrictions.’ If it is the latter then it is ironic since several village panchayats have decided to have a complete lockdown, although this is against the government’s order, but this is a good step to break the chain of infections.
