Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar on Wednesday reviewed monsoon works in Canacona.
During the review meeting in the hall of the Canacona deputy collector’s office, Tawadkar sought to know from the officers present on the progress of pre-monsoon works and the preparedness of the administration to meet any exigencies that could arise during monsoons.
Tawadkar categorically told the administration that emergency workers should not be lazy and asked the panchas and citizens to inform the sarpanch and panchayat secretary and get the drains in their respective panchayat areas.
A Chaudi resident, Shankar Naik, informed that municipal workers engaged by the Canacona Municipal Council were not being duly paid nor getting proper allowances for the tough jobs/works during emergency times in the rainy season.
Reacting to the complaint, CMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar informed that necessary allowances would be provided in time to the municipal workers.
The Canacona Mamlatdar informed that a Control Room will function 24x7 and besides the landline number 2643329, they will also be accessible on mobile number 9529050351.
Those present at the meeting included CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Canacona Dy Collector Ramesh Gaonkar, Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar, CMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar, Group Development Officer Ashok Naik, Canaocna Police Inspector Chandrakant Gawas, PWD (Water Supply) engineer Alister D'Souza and officials from the Agriculture Department, PWD (Roads) Fire station and sarpanchas and panchas of various panchayats.
Also present included Poinguinim Dy Sarpanch Sunil Paingankar, Councillors Hemant Kumar Naikgaonkar, Narcisco Fernandes, Simon Rebelo, BJP Mandal President Vishal Desai and others, who presented various suggestions to tackle the monsoon.
