Canacona: Polling picks up pace after slow start

It was a slow start to polls for the two ZP constituencies in Canacona, but people came out in larger numbers in the second half of the day and the voter turnout crossed 50% in both ZP constituencies.

Voting in both ZP constituencies began very slow in the first two hours and slowly picked up as the day progressed. At the end of voting, Khola ZP constituency recorded 62.49% and Poinguinim ZP constituency barely crossed the halfway mark, with a 50.35% turnout.

Males outnumbered females in both constituencies, with the male voters (4,290) and female voters (4,186) accounting for the 8,476 turnouts (62.49%) at the Khola ZP polls and male voters (4,246) and female voters (4,055) accounting for the 8,301 voters (50.34%) at the Poinguinim ZP polls.

Authorities had made necessary arrangements for SOPs and social distancing for voters to cast their ballots.

The polling was conducted peacefully and no untoward poll-related incidents were reported in the taluka.
