CANACONA
Authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the general assembly elections to be held in Canacona constituency on Monday.
According to sources at Returning office, Canacona-40, a total of 650 officials including police and CISF personnel have been deputed to the 59 polling stations spread accross Canacona constituency.
While Chaudi polling is classified as Green Booth, two polling stations at Sadolxem (Poinguinim) and Delem(Municipality) are classified as Pink Booths, where only women officials will manage the arrangements.
In an elaborate arrangement, officials earmarked for the conduct of polls in 59 polling stations were handed over all the elections materials including EVMs and related systems.
Meanwhile, doubts were raised whether free and fair elections opportunities were ensured to all the contesting candidates in Canacona.
Even as surveillance teams including the flying squads were seen keeping a close eye on the alleged movements of candidates, their agents or even their supporters making any attempts to influence the electorate.
It may be recalled that canvassing had come to an end on Saturday 5 pm with every announcement or campaigning coming to an official halt.
Flying squads alongwith police personnel were moving around the main streets and as late as even 2 am people informed they their vehicles were stopped and they were questioned for being out so late in the night. Some of the vehicles were reportedly even searched for incriminating elections material or cash, etc.
Incidentally, most candidates including party candidates and independents kept to their residences, where some of their workers, election agents or representatives met and discussed strategy for polling on Monday.
