Canacona to get devpt, funds on par with cities, assures minister

Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday assured that Canacona would get all-round infrastructure developments and that, funds will be allotted on par with other cities in the State.

Rane was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the 11 cr re-constructed modern 3-storey administrative-cum-commercial building of Canacona Municipality in the presence of Sports Minister and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Laxuman Pagui, and GSUDA Chief Project Officer Ankush Gaonkar.

“Canacona will get all the planned infrastructural development projects such as fish market, while work on beautification of 3.5 km stretch of Chaudi town will begin in next two months. Approval of proposal for re-construction of old commercial building in dilapidated state, and other proposals submitted will be approved by the government in this term itself,” assured Rane.

“In fact, the government will ensure that development in Canacona will be along the lines of development in Panaji or in Margao and no difference will be made.”

Speaking further, Rane said children, youth and women will get all facilities needed by them and that, all these facilities will be sanctioned during this government’s term itself.

Earlier, Tawadkar said the work on the Rs 1300 cr worth works of four-laning of NH-66 from Polem to Panzorconim will commence within next 2 months. He requested the urban development minister to approve the single tender for commencing construction of fish market, as previously four tender attempts were unsuccessful.

CMC Chairperson Laxuman Pagui lauded the government for initiating and completing many development works in the municipality, including the Ravindra Bhavan.

Others present at the function included Director of Urban Development & Member Secretary GSUDA Brijesh Manerkar, Urban Development Secretary (IAS) Yetindra Maralkar, GSUDA Chief Project Officer Ankush Gaonkar, Sr Project Engineer Hussain Shah Mazawar, CMC Chief Officer Laxmikant R Desai, CMC Vice-Chairperson Gandesh Madgaonkar, ZP Ajit (Ajay) Lolienkar, Sarpanch’s Savita Tawadkar (Poinguinim), Sejal Gaonkar (Shristhal), Vilesh Pagi (Agonda), Krupesh Velip (Khotigao), Councillors Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Simon Rebello, Hemant Kumar Naik Gaunkar, Pandurang (Dhriaj) U Naik Gaunkar, Amita C Pagi, Sara Samba Naik Desai, Nitu S. Dessai, Narcisco S Fernandes, Shubham S Komarpant and Supriya S Dessai.

On the occasion, the CMC’s logo showcasing the old and iconic municipal building (Camara), Palolem Beach coast with Konko island was also released by Rane and Tawadkar.
