Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday ordered immediate allotment of four doctors at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) and assured to upgrade the health centre.
Rane, who was in Canacona to inaugurate the reconstructed municipal building, visited the CHC and reviewed the health facilities and staff shortages in CHC Canacona.
Rane informed that Nodal Officer Dr Kedar Naik will submit the Gap-Analysis report in a month's time, and after that, the government will try to achieve 60%, if not hundred percent, of the shortcomings or whatever is lacking at the health centre.
“Right now, there is a shortfall of 4 doctors, so I am posting four doctors to the CHC Canacona. Whatever shortfall is there it will be made up. There is a shortage of technicians for ultrasound, X-Ray machine, and other periphery areas.”
“If a woman goes to the CHC for delivery that delivery should be done at the CHC itself and she should not be sent to Margao or Bambolim. Similarly, an accident patient should be treated here itself (neurology and orthopaedics). These and some other issues are challenging. But we are trying to achieve it in a different way.”
“The GMC hospital, SGDH at Margao and Tuem hospital need to need to be developed on priority, and so also, the hospitals at Sanguem, Curchorem and Canacona are also priority. There is a need to upgrade this CHC so that there is no need for the people of Canacona to go outside Canacona for treatment.”
When asked about the renal ailments in Canacona, Rane admitted that he does not have the answers for the renal failure cases in Canacona.
“I will be writing to the Centre to appoint a team to study why the incidents of renal failures/ailments are taking place more in Canacona and what we have to do to avoid them,” said Rane.
“A dialysis unit has been started during my term itself and there are 94 kidney patients availing of dialysis in Canacona.”
