Stating that suitable land would be identified to construct a new Canacona Fire Station, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said funds would also be earmarked to restore the Cabo-de-Rama Fort in Khola village.
In his budget speech on Wednesday, Sawant proposed a number of projects for the State’s southernmost taluka.
Sawant said Rs 177.35 crore has been earmarked for the four-laning of existing Canacona bypass end (Mashem to Polem), Rs 79 crore are earmarked for land acquisition for four-laning of NH66 in Canacona, and an estimated Rs 200 crore for the four-laning of NH66 (Karmal Ghat) section.
In the category of new works in 2023-24, Rs 75 crore has been earmarked and works would be taken up for design and construction of a 5 MLD Water Treatment Plant Gavnem- Gaondongrim, to be completed by December 2025.
Besides, suitable land would be identified for the construction of a new Canacona Fire Station.
Stating that 66% of the Canacona Ravindra Bhavan has been completed, Sawant said funds have been earmarked to restore the Cabo-de-Rama Fort in Khola village.
Bringing relief to the several orchid poly-house owners in Canacona, Sawant has proposed a new scheme ‘Revitalization of Polyhouses’ to revive all existing poly-houses which are more than 6 years old and are eligible for 50% subsidy under the scheme.
The poly-houses were introduced by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar during his term as minister for agriculture in 2016 and around 45 farmers, mostly in Canacona and Sanguem, had each invested about Rs 50 lakh to set up the poly-houses.
However, the farmers complained that Agriculture Department did not provide timely support to them and multiple challenges forced many to abandon their poly-house projects.
