Boost for capital expenditure on infrastructure

Infrastructure development is expected to get a boost with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant projecting capital spending to the tune of Rs 6,173-plus crore which is approximately 18.62 per-cent of the total Rs 26,844.40 crore government expenditure envisaged in the budget.

Of the Rs 6,173-odd crore capex, Sawant’s budget documents reveal Rs 1,422.66 crore will go into repayment of State debt, leaving Rs 5,000-odd crore for spending on infrastructure projects.

Some of the projects that Sawant mentioned during his budget speech include the ambitious resurfacing for a smoother riding surface of 1,700 kilometers of roads across the State. The total spend on this project is Rs 1,000 crore.

Sawant said, 500 kilometers of road resurfacing of this target is set to be accomplished within the next two months and before the onset of the monsoon which will cost Rs 250-plus crore.
