Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday that two large twin-engine ferries would be procured and commissioned, while five modern design RO-RO ferry boats would also be procured to reduce turnaround time and to accommodate more vehicles.
In his budget speech, Sawant said a budget of Rs 153.90 crore has been allocated to the Captain of Ports (CoP) and the River Navigation Department (RND).
He informed that dredging of the Upstream River would be undertaken to open up new routes and promote Backwater Tourism.
He also proposed to introduce online services for registration/renewal of inland vessels and collection of taxes/fares, etc., as well as a proposal to launch a monthly PASA App to offer discounted ticket rates for passengers and vehicles.
