Even as Rs 2,687.54 crore have been allocated to PWD, an increase of 28%, a whopping Rs 1,000 crore of it will be utilised for improvement of riding quality surface of State highways, major district roads and village roads.
A total of 1,700 kms roads have been earmarked for improvement of which the government intends to complete 500 kms costing Rs 280 crore before the onset of monsoon.
Further, Rs 100 crore have been reserved for MLA “ Local Area Development scheme, with each constituency getting Rs 2.50 crore.
Also, Rs 15 crore has been set aside for construction of single span bridge at Sanguem.
It was also informed that the Centre sanctioned Rs 2228.78 crore under National Highways for various projects.
Among them includes four-laning of existing Navelim to Cuncolim section of NH66 worth Rs 361.9 crore, four-laning of existing Canacona bypass-end (Mashem) to Pollem at Rs 177.35 crore, construction of six-lane elevated corridor in Porvorim including approaches at Rs 600 crore, Rs 922.03 crore for land acquisition at various places, etc.
The sewerage sector has also been given a thrust with the allocation of Rs 378.18 crore whereas Rs 343.62 crore have been allocated for repairs and maintenance of all government buildings.
Apart from this, the second four-lane of the new Zuari bridge has been proposed to be thrown open for traffic by December-end.
The House was also informed that the proposal for a new Borim bridge is in the final stage with the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari issuing consultancy letter for the same.
Also, the government has prepared an annual plan of Rs 3,630.85 crore to be submitted to the Centre in which Rs 1,500 crore has been sought for four-laning of Anmod to Mollem highway (NH748), Rs 750 crore for four-laning of Ponda to Bhoma section of NH748, Rs 600 crore for four-laning of existing Sanjeevani Sugar Factory (Pilliem)-Khandepar section (NH748), Rs 550 crore for four-laning of Nagoa to Verna section (NH66), etc.
