Govt to install pre-paid smart meters to avoid defaulters

The power sector has been allocated Rs 3,856.36 crore in the budget, an overall increase of around 22%.

The government also intends to install pre-paid smart meters along with smart metering, in a bid to avoid defaulters.

Among the projects which are listed for completion include a 40 MVA substation at Mandrem, installation of 63 MVA power transformer at Ponda substation, 110 KV MVA power transformer at Verna substation, 40 MVA substation at Tuem and underground cabling from important 33 KV and 11 KV feeders.

Among the proposed works include the commissioning of three 63 MVA, 220/33 KV substation at Verna along with the associated 220 KV line from Dharnandora to Verna at Rs 350 crore; the commissioning of three 63 MVA, 220/33 KV substation at Saligao costing Rs 325 crore, and installation of 2x10 MVA, 33/22 KV substation at Kavlem-Madkai at Rs 20 crore.
