The State government has proposed the introduction of a Vehicle Scrapping Policy in a bid to incentivise public transport operators for replacing old buses with electric or CNG fuel-based vehicles.
The proposal was announced as the government allotted Rs 296.75 crore for the Transport section.
Under the Vehicle Scrapping Policy, automated testing centres are proposed to be established to provide vehicle fitness certificates, on a PPP basis.
Further, a provision of Rs 31.92 crore has been made for the purchase of new electric buses.
The Kadamba Transport Corporation has been allotted Rs 25 crore to implement the Mukhyamantri Sarati Scheme.
A prepaid card-based ticketing system has been proposed at all KTC routes for cashless transport.
Establishing a monitoring centre has been proposed as also the launch of an app for the passenger information system of KTCL.
Digitisation of routes/bus stops, prepared by Urban Mass Transit Company through Smart City Implementation of Mobility Plan, has also been mooted.
An amendment to the Goa State Interim Compensation to Road Victims, 2020 has been proposed so that the income limit is increased to enhance coverage under the scheme.
A thousand taxis will also be provided to taxi operators with zero investment under the Mukyamantri Goykar Taxi Patrao Scheme.
Introduction of an Intelligent Transport Management System, wherein buses and other modes of last-mile connectivity will be integrated on a user-friendly platform so that commuters utilize public transport instead of their own vehicles.
