Highlighting the importance of a speaker in the assembly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said the State government would fully support Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar to make Canacona Swayampurna and assured that Canacona would be the first taluka to be Swayampurna in the State.

Sawant was speaking at the Vijay Sankalp Purti Melava after he, Tawadkar, Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phaldessai, Vasco MLA Daji Salkar, Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar, Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar and State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanawade were felicitated at a function organised by the Canacona Block BJP and Canacona Nagrik Samiti.

The chief Minister was also presented a Bhawani Talwar (sword), believed to have been carried by the Maratha King Shivaji Maharaj.

“The speaker’s post is a very important post after the chief minister’s post. The government will be totally behind Tawadkar to make Canacona Swayampurna. We will help in the human development of Canconcars and 100% schemes will be taken to every person in the taluka. I assure you that Canacona will be the first taluka to be Swayampurna in Goa,” said Sawant.

In his address, Tawadkar insisted that he would develop Canacona constituency even as a speaker.

“I don’t need to be a minister to develop Canacona constituency. I think in a positive angle and I will deliver to the people. As speaker, I could begin the black-topping of roads in each and every village of Canacona constituency. We are working on a vision to provide 5,000 jobs to the youth of Canacona alone,” said Tawadkar.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Phaldessai, Salkar, Tuenkar, Gaonkar, Tanawade and Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Simon Rebello.
