Candolim hotel staffer booked for theft of Rs 3.34 lakh

Calangute police have registered a theft case after a front office staff member of a hotel in Candolim allegedly stole more than Rs 3.34 lakh in cash from the hotel’s cash counter.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Pralhad Govekar, general manager of Hotel Silver Sands Serenity, located at Pinto’s Wado, Candolim.

According to the complaint, the incident took place around 4 am on January 27 at the hotel premises.

The accused, identified as Md Imdad Alam (23), who was working as a front office associate, allegedly took Rs 3,34,711 from the cash counter and fled.

The accused is a native of Howrah district in West Bengal and was employed at the hotel at the time of the incident.

Police have registered an offence under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The accused is currently absconding, and police have started a lookout to trace and arrest him.

Further investigation is under way.
