A youth from Candolim has been duped of Rs 2.6 lakh by an unknown person from Madhya Pradesh, after he was asked to download a customer support APK application to get an early delivery of a Yamaha motorcycle which was sent to MP for repair.
According to police reports, the incident took place between February 2 and 3 when Manuel Fernandes of Orda-Candolim had sent his motorcycle to a garage in Madhya Pradesh for repairs.
The bike was repaired and was sent by the garage concerned through courier.
An unknown person then got in touch with Fernandes and lured him to install a customer support APK application to get an early delivery of his Yamaha motorcycle. After downloading this app, Fernandes was asked to send him send Re 1.
When the motorcycle arrived in Goa, Fernandes was surprised to find out that Rs 2.6 lakh had been withdrawn from his account through the app.
Realising that he had been cheated, Fernandes filed a complaint with the Calangute police and a case has been registered against unknown persons under the IT Act.
