Cansaulim locals, along with Congress leader Olencio Simoes, former MLA Alina Saldanha, and others, filed objections before the Mormugao Deputy Collector on Wednesday to oppose a railway overbridge project in the area.
Locals said an underpass in the area would solve their need and would reduce the project cost for the railways as well.
Congress leader Olencio Simoes said the landowners of Cansaulim had objected to the feasibility report regarding the procurement of land for the road overbridge in lieu of the level crossing gate in Cansaulim and Arossim village.
“It is also pertinent to note that in the past, the villagers and landowners have opposed a similar project proposed by South Western Railway (SWR) under the special railway project of “Londa Vasco Road Over Bridge in lieu of Level Crossing Nos. 25 Project,” said Simoes, while speaking to reporters.
“In the past also, villagers have suggested that the railway road underpass should be constructed at the already existing underpass opposite Government Primary School, Cansaulim, which does not require any acquisition nor much infrastructural cost burden,” he added.
