North Goa District Road Safety Committee has decided to examine ten major road accidents within the district involving multiple fatalities, with an aim to formulate recommendations. This decision comes amidst a concerning surge in accidents and fatalities across the State.
Led by the District Collector, the committee also resolved to activate the sub-committee for accident analysis, established across 13 Police Stations in North Goa. “Ten major accident cases in North Goa involving multiple fatalities will be analyzed, and recommendations will be submitted to the district magistrate. Moreover, sub-committees across the police stations will be activated,” GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins, who’s among the committee members, said.
The State has been a witness to several accidents in the past few days, with nearly a dozen deaths and over 20 injuries reported this month alone.
Martins further stated that the road safety audit will be conducted by the consultant appointed by PWD.
Orientation programme for road safety and traffic management committee members of all village panchayats and municipalities across the district, review of traffic awareness and road safety guide approved by SCERT for schools, preparation of the district road safety plan, and the promotion of the good Samaritan law, availability of trauma facilities and revised accident compensation scheme were among other decisions taken at the meeting.
