Car driven by Ticlo's son set ablaze after girl knocked dead in Belgaum

BELAGAVI: A teenaged girl from Belagavi died while her younger sister was injured after they were allegedly knocked down by a BMW car driven by Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo's son on the national highway near Azadnagar along the outskirts of Belagavi city on Monday evening.
According to details from Traffic North police station and Malmaruti police station here, the incident took place at about 6 pm when the BMW car (GA-03 Z-0678), owned by the Aldona MLA and driven by his son, Kyle, struck Tehniyat Waheed Bishti (18), as she and her sister were crossing the road.
Tehniyat was rushed to Lakeview Hospital, but succumbed to injuries.
Immediately after the incident, an irate mob started pelting stones at the car and set it ablaze, while Kyle was also allegedly thrashed by the irate mob.
The police rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire, while also taking Kyle into custody.
Separate cases were registered at Malmaruti police station in connection with the burning of the car, while a case was registered at the Traffic North police station against Kyle Ticlo in connection with the mishap.
CPI Gaddekar said MLA Ticlo had visited Malmaruti police station and registered a complaint against the persons who set the car ablaze and thrashed his son.
The police have arrested one person allegedly involved in burning of the car and thrashing Kyle.
Kyle was also being questioned by the Traffic North police connection with the mishap.
Meanwhile, Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo, who was in Belgaum, told The Goan over phone that the incident was unfortunate.
“My son is cooperating with the Belagavi police in completing the formalities,” said Ticlo.
According to reports, the BMW 530D car (GA-03Z-0678), which is owned by Glenn Ticlo, was registered with the RTO in November 2017.
A short video clip of law enforcement officers near Ticlo's car in flames and an object being flung at the vehicle went viral on social media.
