A car was reduced to ashes while a house was partially gutted at Gurwada in Kudnem–Bicholim late Tuesday night The front veranda, the entire roof structure, household belongings, and nearly 500 kgs of stored were also destroyed. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire originated due to a short circuit in the veranda of the house owned by Anuradha Surlkar.
The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the parked car as well. Fortunately, the family members, who were asleep at the time, woke up in time and raised an alarm. Local residents immediately rushed to assist in the rescue efforts. The fire brigade brought the blaze under control after nearly two hours of firefighting operations using two fire tenders. The preliminary estimate of the loss stands at around Rs 10 lakh. A panchanama is being conducted and an official report is being prepared. The incident has placed the family under severe financial strain.
CM Pramod Sawant has taken note of the incident and assured that necessary assistance will be provided at both the government and personal levels.
