Dry grass fires in Sattari are causing damage to natural resources and plantations in the taluka. According to the Valpoi fire station, a sudden fire broke out in dry grass at Vadakade in Dabe-Sattari. After locals raised the alarm, firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control using water jets.
Around 2,000 square metres of land and vegetation were affected. Strong afternoon winds helped the fire spread quickly, damaging trees and natural growth. A similar incident was reported at Padeli-Sattari, where dry grass caught fire and caused damage. Fire personnel acted quickly to control the flames and stop the fire from spreading further. Officials said there has been a rise in grass fire cases in recent weeks, leading to damage to natural resources and cashew plantations.
Fire officials have urged people not to throw lit cigarettes or bidis by the roadside, not to set fire in grassy areas, and to inform authorities immediately if they notice smoke or flames. In another incident, a buffalo fell into a pit at Ravan village in the Keri panchayat area. Firefighters reached the site and safely rescued the animal. Local residents appreciated their efforts.
