Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão has said that Christmas is a celebration of God’s love for humanity and a reminder that humility and love can bring peace, justice and fraternity to the world.
In his Christmas message, the Archbishop said that although power and strength are glorified in today’s world, true change comes through love and humility, as shown by the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem. He said this message is especially relevant in a time when peace and justice appear to be distant dreams.
Calling upon people to reflect on the meaning of Christmas, Cardinal Ferrão said the festival should inspire everyone to bring peace to a disturbed world, justice to the oppressed and fraternal love within families, neighbourhoods and among the needy.
Extending greetings on behalf of himself and Auxiliary Bishop Simião Fernandes, the Archbishop conveyed his wishes to the entire Catholic community and to all people of goodwill.
He wished everyone a joyful and blessed Christmas and a happy New Year, and prayed that the love and peace of Jesus remain with all always.
