The gram sabha of the Carmona village panchayat on Sunday has resolved to demand scrapping of the electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the coming election.
The issue of EVMs was raised at the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes wherein members highlighted that the EVMs are susceptible for manipulation. They demanded that the time-tested ballot system of polling should be brought back in the elections and restore the faith and confidence in the election process.
After much discussion, the gram sabha adopted a resolution demanding scrapping of the EVMs and to bring back the ballot system of voting.
Sarpanch Sandra later told the media that the resolution adopted by the gram sabha will be forwarded to the government for action.
Saying that the gram sabha also gave its approval for the budget estimates for the financial year 2024-25, the sarpanch said the panchayat has prepared a surplus budget.
The playground issue also came up for discussions wherein it was decided to provide all details to the local MLA Venzy Viegas for follow up action. MLA Venzy also attended the meeting.
