Carmona sabha highlights anomalies in Coastal Plan

MARGAO
The Carmona Gram Sabha at its extraordinary meeting on Wednesday has highlighted the various anomalies of the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan concerning the village.

Members were also furious as a fresh CZMP plan was received by the Panchayat on the same day in the morning as members did not have any time to verify the latest CZMP received by the panchayat.

Members pointed out that a Jetty has been shown on the Plan for which the sarpanch replied that no such proposal has been sent or received by his office.

Members were critical of the Major Ports Authority Act under which MPT as a Major Port of the State will have unlimited powers over the master plan under which the State government or the local authority will not have any say in case of any conflict over regulations made by the board.

Members wanted the Port Limits of the River Sal to be removed from CZMP and the river to be maintained purely for the fishermen.

Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge informed the members that the nationalization of rivers, CZMP, and the dredging seems to be pointing towards making River Sal a transit waterway for cargo.

Members also said that the various sluice gates, mangroves and fields are also misinterpreted in the Plan and it is not matching the Plan submitted to GCZMA by the gram sabha earlier, and requested more time for study and file objections and suggestions.

The panchayat members and the gram sabha members together studied the Plan in detail and submitted relevant suggestions concerning the CZMP.

Meanwhile, the sarpanch informed the media that the ordinary gram sabha is scheduled for March 14, 2021.
