MARGAO
In an interesting development on the controversy surrounding the Margao carnival float parade, the opposition group of councillors has disputed the claim of the Margao civic body that the council had unanimously resolved to hold the Carnival float parade in Fatorda.
In fact, Chairperson of the Margao Carnival Committee Arthur D’Silva has said the councillors had lodged a written representation addressed to the authorities, including the Director of Tourism, claiming that the resolution attached by the MMC in the High Court was allegedly fabricated by the civic body.
“There was no unanimity on the resolution. Majority of the councillors had voted in favour of the old Holy Spirit-MMC square route. But the Council has filed before the High Court a resolution claiming it was passed unanimously by the civic body. Even the media reports will prove that the so-called resolution was not passed unanimously. We have now brought this to the notice of the authorities to prove that the resolution was fabricated by the Council,” Arthur said while exuding confidence that the authorities will do justice to the Margao Carnival Committee.
