Carrem OHR complete, not yet operational

PORVORIM
The construction work on the Over Head Reservoir (OHR) of water having capacity of 650 cubic metres at Carrem-Socorro has been completed finally, but it could not be commissioned as yet for want of sufficient power. The foundation stone for the OHR at Carrem was laid in February 2015.
The existing transformer at this location is of 100 KVA. Since two pumps of 60 HP are installed at OHR for pumping water, the transformer needs to be replaced with a transformer having higher capacity of 200 KVA.
Speaking to The Goan, executive engineer V M R Chavan said PWD had requested the electricity department to replace the existing transformer of 100 KVA with 200 KVA for commissioning the OHR.
"Since the procedure of the electricity department is bit tedious and time consuming, the electricity department has permitted the PWD to go ahead with installation of new 200 KVA transformer at its own cost and agreed to depute their staff to supervise the work," said Chavan.
"The PWD Porvorim has obtained financial clearance from the head office for the installation of new transformer of 200 KVA and the OHR will be commissioned within next three weeks. After commissioning the OHR, areas of Vaddem, Carrem, Zos Waddo and Maina will get sufficient water," added Chavan.
Chavan further said two more OHRs of capacity 650 cubic metres and Ground Level Reservoir (GLR) of storage capacity 1,250 cubic metres will be constructed at O'Coqueiro at Porvorim and Dhanvado in Salvador-do-Mundo, at the instance of Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte.
"A water treatment plant of 15 MLD has been proposed behind police quarters at Porvorim and the State government has given clearance to PWD to obtain loan from NABARD for this project. On completion of all these projects, Porvorim and surrounding areas will get sufficient water," said Chavan.
