Margao police have registered a non-congnizable case against Edwin Cardozo, a resident of Ravora, Navelim on the allegation that he provided an alleged false statement while applying for procurement of a certificate of income and caste certificate.
The police has registered the case under section 199 and 200 of the Indian Penal code based on a complaint lodged by Pradeep Verlekar, who had unsuccessfully contested against Edwin Cardozo in the Zilla Panchayat election for the Navelim ZP seat.
When contacted, Edwin alias Cipru Cardozo expressed shock and surprise over the police action, terming the NC case registered against him as politically motivated. “My rivals contesting from Navelim constituency have realized that my candidature has evoked tremendous support from the people of Navelim. And, now they have used the police to register a false and fabricated case against me,” he claimed.
