Verna police has succeeded in recovering the balance of Rs 8 lakh, which was part of the Rs 16 lakh which was illegally seized by two poll officers at Dabolim.

According to sources, Verna police managed to recover the remaining Rs 8 lakh after interrogating the two poll officers, Nitish Naik and Aniruddha Pawar, who were earlier suspended and later arrested in this connection.

“Police recovered the balance amount of Rs 8 lakh from one Yashwant Singh Krishnayya, a businessman from Dabolim. Krishnayya was this person who had given Rs 16 lakhs to the complainants, Ashok Choudhary and Pawan Kumar Sharma.”

“Krishnayya had allegedly given the cash to the two businessmen and he may have then informed Dabolim-based fast food operator Chandan Yadav to tip Nitish Naik about the money and the vehicle,” the source said.

“While police recovered Rs 4 lakh each from the duo, Nitish Naik and Aniruddha Pawar, the remaining Rs 8 lakh was recovered from Krishnayya. He is a businessman and since he is above the age of 60, Verna police have issued him notice under Section 41A,” the source added.
