MARGAO
The Catholic Association of Goa has expressed its solidarity with the youth of India who have taken to peaceful democratic protest over the grave concerns arising from the paper leak controversy and the larger crisis of confidence it has created in the examination system.
The Association also extended support to Sonam Wangchuk, who has stood firmly and peacefully for accountability, transparency, and justice, and whose call has resonated widely among students and citizens across the country.
In a letter to the office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Association president Cyril Fernandes said the issue is no longer only about examination irregularities. “It has taken a painful human toll. Reports have pointed to multiple student suicides following the cancellation of examinations and the distress caused by the paper leak controversy. This heart breaking loss of young lives must shake the conscience of the nation”, he said.
He added: “We note that a large protest march to Parliament was held in the national capital in connection with these demands, including calls for accountability in the handling of the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak issue and the resignation of Union Minister Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan. We further note that similar protests have found support in different parts of the country including our very own State of Goa, reflecting the depth of public concern and the anguish of young aspirants whose future depends upon a fair and credible examination process”.
Urging the Government of India to act without delay into the issues raised by the students, the Association said a transparent and time-bound inquiry must be ensured, responsibility must be fixed, and all necessary corrective measures must be taken to protect the interests and dignity of students.
