MARGAO
In an interesting development, the Cavelossim Village Panchayat has decided to write to the Water Resources Department to initiate action against the contractor who was awarded the work of putting sandbags along a small portion of the coastline at Mobor.

Speaking to the media, Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz informed that neither the WRD nor the contractor had kept the panchayat body in the loop over placing sandbags along the coast. “The government must have issued a work order amounting to Rs 22 lakh to the contractor to execute the work. What we find on the ground are bags stuffed with sand from the beach. We do not know how the exercise has protected the beach, it is a waste of money. The work was not carried out along the entire coast,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Sarpanch informed that the Village Development Committee has adopted a resolution demanding that Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas raise on the floor of the House the issue of unauthorised unloading of fish by fishing vessels at Mobor. “The VDC has taken a decision how come fish is being unloaded at Mobor if the activity is unauthorised. Members have also demanded to know whether the boat owners operating from Mobor are paying the GST to the government. We have conveyed to the MLA to raise the issue in the Assembly,” he said.

In fact, the Sarpanch informed that he along with members of VDC on Thursday called on the Benaulim MLA with a plea to start a bus service on the Cavelossim-Margao route for the benefit of the citizens and students.

The delegation also raised the issue of underground cabling with the Benaulim MLA with a plea to expedite and complete the works.
