Cavelossim p’yat demands whip on public drinking, stunts on bridge

Seeks action against lorry involved in mishap

MARGAO
Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz has made a plea to the Colva police to crack a whip against public drinking and stunts practices on the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge.

He has also urged the Colva police to find out the tractor-lorry which was responsible for the serious accident in the village leaving a two-wheeler grievously injured on Friday night.

Taking serious cognizance of stunts and public drinking taking place on the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge, the Cavelossim Sarpanch also made a fervent plea to the parents to instill discipline amongst the youngsters to avoid riding noise making bikes causing nuisance for the public.

The Cavelosism Sarpanch, who called on the Colva police on Saturday, to demand action against the owner of the tractor-lorry that was parked on the Cavelossim road, causing the accident for the two-wheeler rider, said the police had detained a couple of youngsters and issued challans for parking of vehicles on the Assolna-Cavelossim bridge.

“The Cavelossim Panchayat had installed cameras on the bridge with a view to stop public drinking and vehicular parking on the bridge. We have seen of late that things have returned back to square one. I have sought the cooperation of the police to stop the menace,” he added.

Saying the Colva police have been policing the bridge and the roads leading to the bridge, Dixon said it is also the responsibility of the parents to educate their children to ensure they do not cause nuisance on the bridge for other travellers.

“We had seen in the past how stunts had resulted in a couple of accidents on the bridge. The panchayat and police would jointly crack a whip against the violators,” he warned.
