The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Ankit Goyal, a loan manager at a private sector bank in Ponda, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes to process Home and Mudra loans.

The case was registered after the CBI received complaints accusing him of harassing loan applicants and soliciting bribes in exchange for processing their applications. The FIR stated that email complaints with supporting evidence prompted the central agency to verify the allegations before initiating formal proceedings.

“Upon verification, it was revealed that Ankit Goyal, posted as Loan Manager, handled files related to the Home and Mudra loans of the complainant and his wife. It was also established that Ankit demanded and accepted undue advantages on several occasions through the account of his sister Anjali Goyal,” the FIR stated. The woman also faces FIR and investigation.

According to the CBI, at least two complaints detailed how Ankit allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh to process a home loan application. In one instance, the complainant alleged that Ankit contacted him via WhatsApp and had an “audacious and arrogant” conversation, after which the loan was indefinitely withheld.

“Ankit Goyal’s corrupt behaviour led to the home loan being put on indefinite hold. I have suffered financial losses because of his rash and imprudent actions,” the complaint stated, with the bank also intimated about the issue earlier.

The FIR also stated that Ankit was involved in frequent misconduct with the bank’s branch head and senior officials at another branch on being quizzed about this matter.

CBI officials are now probing whether Ankit was operating a larger racket under the guise of the bank’s name. The complainant has also included proof of transactions made to Anjali’s account, which is suspected to have been used to receive the bribe money.
