Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner Rabindra Nath Roy was on Monday booked for accepting a bribe in a raid at the PF Bhavan at EDC Patto Plazza by a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Roy was allegedly caught accepting a bribe from a labour contractor. He was immediately arrested and booked under Section 7 of of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Roy had sought a bribe from the contractor for settling a case towards delay in payment of PF for the period from January 2016 to October 2018. He allegedly demanded that the contractor book him an air ticket to Kolkata but settled for Rs 5000 to clear the case after the latter claimed he did not know how to book an air ticket.
The CBI laid a trap and nabbed Roy in the act of accepting Rs 5000 from the contractor. Roy’s flat in the residential quarters next to the PF Bhavan was also searched by the CBI officials.
The complainant contractor had alleged that Roy had deliberately sent notices to his old address despite being intimated that he had shifted to
a new residence. Earlier in June 2014 an enforcement officer of the PF Commissionerate was also arrested by CBI for accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 for processing a file to open new PF account for a company.
The official was arrested after the company complained to the CBI that the official was demanding a bribe to issue a no-objection certificate for obtaining an employees’ code.
