Responding to concerns raised by an NGO, the Curchorem Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) has assured to barricade the dilapidated municipal market complex for the safety of venros and customers.
According to reports, the South Goa unit President of Shivyodha Sangharsh Unit Vinesh Prabudessai and Raju Marojkar inspected the dilapidated market complex and felt it endangered the vendors and customers in and around the building.
Prabhudessai then met CCMC Chairperson Balkrishna Hodarkar on Monday and requested the municipal council to barricade the building urgently as portions of the top slab at the building complex were giving way.
Hodarkar assured Prabhudessai that the barricading work would be undertaken soon, as the council has already tendered the work to construct a new building.
The CCMC chairperson said necessary instructions will be issued to the contractor to undertake the barricading work after consulting Power Minister and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral.
Hodarkar informed that three years back, the CCMC had allotted alternate space and shops for vendors, who sit below the dilapidated building, to undertake their business activity, considering the safety of vendors and customers.
He informed that despite being given alternate space, a few vendors were still seen conducting business at the same unsafe building.
