The CCP has formed a flying squad to put the brakes on the rampant road digging work being undertaken without permission by different agencies including government agency Imagine Panaji Smart City Development

Limited.

“The squad will be provided with a truck to seize all equipment used for road digging,” said Mayor Uday Madkaikar in a press conference.

The CCP has also formed a night flying squad to repair potholes on the road, he informed.

The CCP Mayor has earlier requested people to send photos of potholes on the road. Around 15 people have sent photos of potholes to the Mayor. Now the flying squad will repair these potholes at night.

The CCP has already ordered a hot-mixing vehicle which will be part of the flying squad and help undertake immediate repair of potholed roads, the mayor informed.

Madkaikar also said that Smart city projects work is still going on and it should stop immediately as the CCP needed time to repair the roads before the monsoons.

We wanted Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) to complete work before April 30, but they have permission till May 20. I don’t know how the Collector gave them permission to do digging work till May 20, the mayor stated.

“How will we repair the roads before the monsoon. From private parties, we keep their deposits with us but from SMCDL there is no scope for that,” said the mayor.

Madkaikar also alleged that the project under a smart city is not up to the standards. We have achieved nothing by spending Rs 1000 crores on the Smart City

project.

Meanwhile, the mayor informed that important drains in Patto  area have been damaged due to construction work on the new Mandovi

 bridge.

“The  drains are filled with concrete and if not cleaned before the monsoon, there  is fear of waterlogging,” said Madkaikar.  The mayor also informed that  drains in the KTC bus stand will be cleaned in consultation with PWD  engineers within 3

days.
