The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has begun working along with the Traffic Police and other authorities to decongest traffic in the capital city.
As part of these efforts, authorities have begun regulating traffic along the Panaji bus stand and the Patto-Bhatlem road along the third parallel Patto bridge.
“We have decided to channelise traffic through the Patto road to decongest the Dayanand Bandokar road. The Patto one-way has been denotified and two-way traffic with temporary dividers has begun,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Salim Sheikh.
CCP Commissioner Agnelo Fernandes said locals had been complaining about the roads at Patto.
“We have removed all vehicles parked along the road. Also, footpaths will be reduced to make the road wider. Further changes will be made,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CCP and the Traffic Police have decided on a fresh survey for vehicles found abandoned along the roads and footpaths in the city.
DySP Salim Sheikh said an earlier survey in 2019 had revealed there were around 281 vehicles, including two-wheelers, occupying parking space in the city.
“Panaji City face traffic congestion especially during the morning and evening peak hours. Besides, Traffic Islands which have been hindering the smooth flow of traffic have been identified and we will reshape them to facilitate smoother traffic flow,” said DySP Sheikh.
