The plan to introduce coding and robotics right from class VI in schools is set to take wings with a project monitoring unit of the Directorate of Technical Education mandated to implement it.
The Coding and Robotics Educational Scheme (CARES) will be taken to the schools in two phases -- one for classes VI to VIII and the other for the higher grades.
The effectiveness of the plan, however, will depend on how soon the authorities succeed in setting up the requisite laboratories in each and every government and aided school in the State.
The government says it will begin developing the labs in a phased manner.
These laboratories will have equipment needed for design studios, prototyping labs, 3D printers, robotic sets among other necessary equipment.
The plan also involves taking on board best talent and individuals drawn from the industry, besides companies operating in the specialised space so students get top-quality experience comparable to international standards.
The end goal, according to officials involved in designing the programme is to equip students with skills and knowledge necessary to compete in the digital world and job market.
The plan is ambitious. The key however lies in its implementation, an area where there is little if anything to show in Goa’s school education ecosystems.
