In a bid to recover pending house and trade taxes, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) is set to introduce a One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme with a 100 percent waiver of interest on the tax dues.
As part of the scheme, a period of six months will be given for people to clear their dues.
The CCP will also conduct a door-to-door assessment of government buildings in the city in an effort to collect tax from these offices.
These are among the proposals to be discussed at the CCP meeting on Friday.
"The CCP has an outstanding of around Rs 39 crore as taxes, of which the long pending arrears are Rs 15-16 crore. With this scheme, the CCP will at least recover the principle amount,” said CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate.
Monserrate said people will be given a period of six months to pay the pending taxes.
"This will enable those whose businesses have been affected due to the pandemic some time to clear their pending taxes,” he added.
A decision to reduce fees for door-to-door collection of garbage will also be taken up for discussion at the CCP meeting.
The Goa Chambers of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) had sent a detailed proposal to the CCP to revise the sanitation fees and the CCP has indicated its interest to lower the sanitation fees.
The issue of extending the services of contractual staff, apart from the ones who have been terminated from services, is also listed in the agenda of the CCP meeting.
According to sources, the termination of 15 contract and five daily wage workers is also expected to be debated at the meeting.
Other issues expected to be discussed includes the purchase of 3 chainsaws and a decision on works approved by the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL).
