However, the committee headed by its chairman Uday Madkaikar will submit the report to Mayor Surendra Furtado and Commissioner Dipak Desai on Monday.
Speaking to The Goan, Madkaikar informed that the committee has learnt that 91 handcarts have been paying their taxes regularly to CCP.
“The report would be put forth before the CCP on Tuesday at its special meeting only after which a final call would be taken. We have found that 110 handcarts were operating in the City, of which 91 have been found to be paying fees regularly to CCP till 2011”, Madkaikar said adding that the committee has considered the details of the fees and taxes paid by the 91 handcart operators. Following the revelation that there were more than the prescribed limit of 72 handcarts operating in the City, the market committee had asked all the handcart operators to come with valid documents. Following this, 88 operators had come with valid documents.
This was followed by a physical verification of the handcarts by the committee along with CCP officials including the market inspectors. During the inspection also nearly 110 operators had appeared with their respective documents.
It may be recalled that the entire process of clearing the encroachments had kicked off after Mayor Surendra Furtado directed the Commissioner to initiate action against the illegal hand carts stating that they were causing problem to the pedestrians and traffic.
During the drive, it was discovered that there were more than one cart with the same numbers operating at different locations.
