The resolution was passed at the ordinary meeting of the CCP, which apart from the ruling corporators, received support from four BJP-backed corporators.
Prior to passing of the legislation, Opposition Corporator Pundalik Raut Desai demanded that the number of moveable handcarts should be restricted to 57 only. Opposition corporators also demanded specific locations for handcarts where they could be stationed for most of the time.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Mayor Surendra Furtado said, “The issue of handcarts had reached such a saturation point that we had appointed a committee to prepare a report on the moveable handcarts operating in the city. The report pointed out that there were 92 of them and that the CCP should decide whether they should be legalised or not. After a discussion, we decided to grant permission to 92 handcarts to operate. These will mainly sell fruits, soft drinks, vada pav and bhel puri.”
Speaking further, he said, “Temporarily they have been placed in and around the city. But we have already appointed the vending committee as per the SC guidelines.
The committee will decide about their location. Additionally, we have made name plates for these handcarts which cannot be tempered with. These will bear the name, photograph and number of the operator.”
CCP also unanimously passed a resolution for the development of the new building of CCP.
“Before inviting the Chief Minister for the presentation of the plan I would ask the architect, who has temporarily done the elevation plan free of cost for us, to present it before all the corporators. They can give their suggestions, if any, before I make a final presentation to the Chief Minister,” said Furtado.
In absence of city plan, CCP resolves against giving nod to laying of gas pipeline
PANAJI: With no plan of Panaji available, CCP has decided to delay the resolution on granting permission to Goa Natural Gas Private Limited for laying city gas distribution (CGD) network.
The company has sent a proposal for digging to lay a gas pipeline from Dona Paula to Caranzalem Church to Taleigao Junction to Ideal High School and Goa International Hotel to Miramar Circle.
When the agenda came up for discussion, Opposition corporators stated that the area where the company has sought permission for digging does not fall in the CCP jurisdiction. They have sought a plan of CCP’s jurisdiction.
Following this, it was resolved to take a decision to grant permission for digging only after a plan was received.
Speaking to media persons, Furtado said, “Some of the opposition corporators said that they want to have the plan of the city. Let the plan come, which may even come after one year. Let us do it then.”
