PANAJI
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Corporation of the City of Panaji Commissioner, who is also the president of the Panaji Shigmotsav Samiti, Dipak Desai said, “The festivities will begin on March 13 with ‘Gulalotsav’ at Azad Maidan. Simultaneously, a musical programme will also be held.”
This year Panaji Shigmo festivities are entering the 29th year. The float parade will be held on March 18 which will begin at 4.30 pm from Caculo Island and culminate near Azad Maidan. At the beginning of the parade will be romtamel and folk art groups and fancy dress participants. These will be followed by floats on various mythological themes.
“The last date for receiving entries is March 17 at 11 am. However, the Committee reserves the right to allow entries after this cut-off time. Presently, we have received six entries. This time we want to ensure that the float parade culminates by 10 pm,” said Desai further adding that this year there would be no prize distribution after the float parade.
Nonetheless, there would also be a screening committee to inspect the floats.
The committee would ensure that the vehicles participating in the parade adhere to the norms and if they are safe. Additionally, there would also be a negative marking system.
This year, there is a minor change in the route that the parade takes.
The parade which will begin near Caculo Island will take the 18th June Road and from Café Aram, will move towards Azad Maidan.
“We will start clearing all parked vehicles along the parade route. They will be towed to the nearby roads and parked. We appeal to people not to park any vehicles along this route,” said DySP (Traffic) Dharmesh Angle.
