The Corporation of city of Panaji in its council meeting on Wednesday decided to issue a notice to stop the construction work of the new Captain of Ports office building near Panaji Jetty as the COP has not yet approached the CCP for permission.
Councillor Soraya Pinto Makhija pointed out that the COP had not approached the CCP before commencing the work stating that construction is not in the jurisdiction of the CCP. She however pointed out that problems of traffic, sewerage and garbage will have to be tackled by the CCP and hence the COP should have taken prior permission from it.
“It was decided in the meeting to issue a stop work notice to the COP on the issue,” informed the mayor Uday Madkaikar.
Meanwhile, Madkaikar informed that the council on Wednesday approved the people’s suggestions for the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan. The suggestions will be sent to the environment department for changes in the draft plan.
It was also decided to increase the pay parking timings from 12 hours to 24 hours, to revise the rates and also include the Campal area in pay parking zones in addition to 8 other locations which were previously identified.
The council deferred the agenda of reserving areas for taxi operators in Panaji as many councillors raised objections to this. Some councillors suggested that a counter system should be introduced and taxis should stationed at the multi-storage parking lot.
The CCP council has also decided to procure new vehicles, compactors, water tankers, towing vehicles, etc.
Presently, 10 CCP vehicles are out of order and hence the corporation has decided to procure 6 more compactor vehicles costing around Rs 1 crore which has already been sanctioned under the 14th Finance
commission.
The CCP also decided to outsource the job of collection, transportation of solid waste along with maintenance of 5 vehicles which will be provided by the CCP. Some councillors objected to the 14-year contract period for this. The commissioner agreed to bring the draft bid before the council if
required.
The council also approved the purchase of a new towing vehicle costing around Rs 14.28 lakhs and contemplated outsourcing the towing work as well.
It was also decided in the meeting to change the location of around 16 roadside stalls next to Don Bosco School as it causes congestion and garbage issue in the area.
“Some of the roadside stalls selling drinks will be kept at the same location, while others will be shifted once we identify new locations,” said Madkaikar.
The council also approved a proposal for the construction of 310 single seat toilets within CCP limits at a cost of around Rs 1.60 crores.
The council also gave post-facto approval for signing MOU with Flycatcher Technologies for setting up 10 TPD biomethanation plants of various capacities at various locations. This project will not have any financial implication as the agency is providing the service free of cost.
Submit complete road digging plans: Mayor tells agencies
PANAJI: With many agencies still planning to dig the city roads for laying of underground cables and other works, the Corporation of the City of Panaji in a meeting on Wednesday told all the agencies to submit a detailed plan of their pending proposed work within one day.
CCP mayor Uday Madkaikar along with officials held a meeting with agencies such as PWD, defense, Reliance Jio, sewerage department, etc.
With the CCP tendering tarring of 7 major roads in the Panaji jurisdiction with work to commence in December, the mayor took stock of the pending digging works of all the agencies.
“The agencies have been told to get their pending digging work plans within one day and complete the work within 1 month,” informed Madkaikar.
According to the mayor, Jio officials still have around 1.5 km of underground cable work sill pending, while the defence department has completed all their work.
“We have also suggested to the PWD that at every 100 meters distance, a passage should be kept across the road for passing water pipes in case of emergency.
“PWD officials have agreed to the suggestion and will come up with a proposal soon,” said Madkaikar.
