Krishnanath Ram-Chandra Bhat, a prominent freedom fighter whose legacy is preserved at the ‘Aguad Interactive Museum: Goa - The Land, The Struggle, The People’ in Sinquerim, was born on March 12, 1929, in Canacona. Krishnanath was arrested in connection with the assassination of a policeman, Jeronnimo Barreto, known for harassing nationalists. He was kept in custody for three months and was then imprisoned in the Aguada jail. After being tried, Krishnanath was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment and was severely beaten during his time in the prison. In 1973, the Central Government awarded Krishnanth Bhat the Tamrapatra award.
